The Sun of Righteousness “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” Psalm 27:1 Jesus is the Light; His presence the glory of God. Prophecies predicted His coming as the Light of the world. Some accepted the Light, while many chose to remain in darkness. To accept Jesus is to have Light. The scriptures give a warm picture of hope in the heart as the shadow of darkness and death gives way to a day of glorious light. As you read these truths I pray you will become a child of light. One day those who delight in living in the light of God’s love will dwell in His glorious presence in the New Jerusalem where there is no need for a sun and there will be no more night. “Arise, shine, for thy light is come and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.” Isaiah 60:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not. Jesus was the true Light which ligheth every man that cometh into the world. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us full of grace and truth.” John 1:1,4, 5, 9, 14 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” John 9:5 “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.” Matthew 4:16 “The sun rising from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:79 “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:5-7 “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12 “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place.” Heeding the prophetic word which points to Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of the world gives light in a dark place. To follow this word “until the day dawns and the morning star rises in my heart” is sunlight in my soul. 2 Peter 1:19

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” 2 Corinthians 4:6, 7 As a chosen people of God we are to “show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” 1 Peter 2:9; Colossians 1:12, 13 “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:8 “Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day. Therefore let us not sleep as do others, but let us watch and be sober.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5, 6 “To you who fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.” (beams or rays) Malachi 4:2 “Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rear guard.” Isaiah 58:8 A time is coming when “thy sun shall no more go down, neither shall they moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.” Isaiah 60:20 “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it and the Lamb is the light thereof.” Revelation 21:23 “And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light.” Revelation 22:5
