Garden of Praise

“Praise the LORD, O my soul! While I live I will praise the LORD;

I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.” Psalm 146:1, 2

In this garden of praise I wish to share with you my experience of praising God.
Praise is a powerful antidote to depression and discouraging thoughts Satan throws at me.
Praise lifts me above the gloom of sadness into the sunshine of joy.
Praise surrounds my soul with an atmosphere of gratitude.
Even when I don’t feel like singing a song of praise if I just start praising God
the shadows are dispersed, and before long I actually feel better.

God is worthy of my praise. He is the Creator and He is my Saviour.
All the angels of heaven bow in worship and sing songs of praise to God and to His Son, saying,
“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power;
for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom,
and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” Revelation 4:11; 5:12.
I too want to lift up the name of Jesus in praise and give glory to my heavenly Father
by extolling His greatness and majesty by my praise.

As you walk through this garden of praise meditate on God’s goodness.
As you enjoy the scenery and flowers lift your voice in praising Jesus.
May your spirit be encouraged in this place of praise.

One of my favorite ways to praise God is to read or sing the inspired words of others.

Here is one of King David's songs.

A Psalm of Praise

I will praise You, my God, O King;
and I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
and I will praise Your name forever and ever.

Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised;
and His greatness is beyond our understanding.
One generation shall praise Your works to another,
and shall declare Your mighty acts.

I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty,
and on Your wondrous works.
Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts,
and I will declare Your greatness.
They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness,
and shall sing of Your righteousness.

The LORD is gracious and full of compassion,
slow to anger and great in mercy.
The LORD is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.

All Your works shall praise You, O LORD,
and Your saints shall bless You.
They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power,
to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts
and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The LORD upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look expectantly to You,
and You give them their food in due season.
You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

The LORD is righteous in all His ways, gracious in all His works.
The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
to all who call upon Him in truth.

He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He also will hear their cry and save them.
The LORD preserves all who love Him,
but all the wicked He will destroy.

My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD,
and all flesh shall bless His holy name forever and ever.

Psalm 145 NKJV

Sometimes I express my praise through writing Psalms

as did Asaph, David, and others recorded in scripture.
Here are a couple I wrote recently from my heart to God's.

I will rejoice forevermore and give praise to my God
for he is kind and caring toward me.
He awoke me this morning, paints the clouds pink at sunrise;
the air is alive with birdsong.
My God, the Creator of all, is with me. I need not fear.
He loves me and encourages my heart. His presence is always with me.
I will look up and rejoice!

I praise You this morning, Jesus, as my Creator.

You formed me in my mother's womb.
You gave me my personality and abilities.
You made me with blue eyes and brown heair.
You gave me a love for words and sharing them.
You put a nurturing spirit within me and a desire to seek you.
Jesus, I praise You for making me the unique person I am,
and for loving me even with all my selfish thoughts and faults.
I praise You for Your tender ways and kindness toward me.

"Praise the LORD, for He is good.
Sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant.
For the Lord has chosen Barbara for Himself,
I am His special treasure.
I know that the LORD is great."
Psalm 135:3-5 personalized

The purest psalms of praise exalt the character and name of God.

They express not only how God interacts in blessing upon His creation but who He is.
Here is another personal expression of praise to my Father God.

I praise You, my God, as the Almighty One,
the ever present Spirit, Sovereign Ruler of everything.
You see as God and know everything. Nothing is hidden from You.
Nothing is too hard for You.
You are able to do exceedingly beyond what I can imagine or ask of You.
You know my every need, even the ones I'm not aware of.
Your gracious hands are always reaching out to give me more
until my life overflows with blessings.

I praise You, my God, this morning as the only true God,
and exalt Your most holy name.
You are perfect and faithful, good and truthful,
loving and merciful, patient and kind.
I praise You with a thankful heart as Your child.
Alleluia to the God of the universe who is the I AM.
